Weekend in Amsterdam

Last weekend I got to spend in Amsterdam. It was my first time going to Holland and I was absolutely amazed by its beautiful small capital city. The weather was pretty cold, but gluhwein, waffles, oliebals and music on the streets of Amsterdam made up for it. Can you imagine - there are 600,000 bicycles in that city! They say the bottom of the canals is covered with old bicycles - the canals are about three meters deep and one meter of it is bicycle junk, so there is a boat that goes along the canals once in a while and picks the junk up from the bottom. I was deeply impressed by visiting Anne Frank's house - "there is no future without remembering". Food and the whole Christmas vibe made me feel festive and the coffee shops of course.. Here are some pictures

Some studies before going to sleep

Here I did some quick studies from a photograph of the mountains in Russia

Massive Black Workshop

It has been amazing four days of pure art galore. I got a shot of inspiration for another year until the next one. I had a chance to see my friends, my former instructors and just simply awesome people.

Concept art for UK Lotto Campaign: What would you do?

Hi, I just wanted to share some concept art I did for the UK Lotto Campaign. It was a great project to work on.
Here is the tv ad itself:

Palette Generator

I was wondering what would be the easiest way to generate the palette from existing images. Very cool trick to extract limited palette from the images the color scheme of which you like. After researching different options - I decided that this website is the best as you can export a file as a photoshop swatch file. The website is free and does not require any registration.

November 4, 2011

It has been a while since I posted any professional work - I am working on tons of exciting projects, including a new game and tv ads. I can't wait until the titles will be released, so I could share some of my art here. Meanwhile I wanted to share my new purchase that I am very excited about - Sony Alpha NES-5n. It is a very small, but powerful camera - it has amazing reviews at http://www.dpreview.com/. The main reason for this purchase was that my previous camera Canon Rebel was too big to carry around and when I travel I end up taking pictures with my phone. This camera is surprisingly small, but very powerful. Cant's wait to lay my hands on it!

Future Cinema

Hi all, Yesterday I had a chance to go to Secret Cinema, which was held not far from Canary Wharf. It was pretty amazing - the movie they were showing was The Lost Boys (1987) - a cheesy, but somehow cool teenage movie about vampires. The crowd divided into two teams - the Frog Brothers and the Freaks. The guys from Future Cinema had the whole movie set reproduced and actors looked very much like the characters from the movie. Here are some pictures I took:

Lighting for Film

I have recently started studying light for film, as it can incredibly help in setting up the light in illustrations I create. Here is a short video on key ligh positions in film:

I would also highly recommend watch Visions of Light

In this movie different cinematographers talk about the history of film making and how light and color set ups evolved throughout the time.

And here is another short video about color and temperature in film lighting:

Brad Rigney uses the dramatic film lighting very deliciously in his illustration. Check out his art here: http://cryptcrawler.deviantart.com/
